I’m Nick Gomez. For about sixteen years I’ve worked at the harder end of computing, the systems that are complex, opaque, or actively trying to hide what they do.

I started in offensive security research, working close to the metal: firmware, kernels, the parts of a machine most people never touch. From there I spent years as a malware analyst and threat-intelligence researcher, taking apart hostile software to understand exactly what it did and how. Then I made a deliberate move. I stepped down from a senior analyst role into junior software engineering to help rebuild critical systems that were failing, and worked my way back up to senior engineer building the platforms that run that kind of analysis at scale.
